Inactive Lead Re-engagement Template

A 3-email sequence to re-engage coaching leads who opted in but haven't booked a call in 30–60 days. Rekindles the relationship and creates a natural opportunity to reconnect.

FlowNurture Team3 min read

Use this sequence for coaching leads who opted into your list — via a lead magnet, webinar, or other offer — but haven't booked a call or responded in 30–60 days. The goal is to rekindle the relationship without being pushy, and to cleanly remove leads who are no longer interested.

When to use this template

  • A contact has been on your list for 30–60 days without engaging (no opens, no clicks, no replies)
  • They originally showed interest (opted in, attended a webinar, downloaded a resource)
  • You want to give them one more genuine chance before sunsetting them

The sequence

Email 1 — A genuine check-in

Timing: Day 1 of re-engagement sequence

Subject options:

  • Hey [First name] — still thinking about [goal]?
  • Still there, [First name]?
  • Checking in

Body:

Hi [First name],

It's been a while since we've been in touch, and I wanted to check in.

You came across [your work / downloaded [resource name] / attended [webinar title]] a few months back, which tells me you were thinking about [topic or goal] at some point.

Is that still something you're working on?

No agenda here — I'm just genuinely curious whether this is still relevant for you. If it is, I have a few thoughts that might help. If things have shifted and this isn't the right time, no problem at all.

Just reply with a quick yes or no — I'll take it from there.

[Your name]

Goal: Open a conversation rather than pitch. A single direct question ("Is this still relevant?") has a much higher reply rate than a promotional email.

Email 2 — A free insight or resource

Timing: Day 5

Subject options:

  • Something for you, [First name]
  • A thought on [topic] you might find useful
  • [First name], this came up recently and I thought of you

Body:

Hi [First name],

Following up from my last email — and this time I have something for you.

[Share one specific, genuinely useful insight, tip, or short resource relevant to the goal they originally expressed. 2–3 short paragraphs or a bullet list. Keep it practical, not promotional.]

I share things like this [describe your communication cadence — e.g. "every couple of weeks" or "in my monthly newsletter"] — if you want to keep hearing from me, you don't need to do anything.

And if you're at a point where you'd like some support on [goal/topic], I have [X] spots open for [month]. If a conversation makes sense, you can grab a time here:

[Your name]

Goal: Lead with value, follow with a soft offer. The offer should feel secondary to the insight — not the point of the email.

Email 3 — The breakup

Timing: Day 10

Subject options:

  • Should I stop emailing you, [First name]?
  • One last email from me
  • Closing the loop

Body:

Hi [First name],

I'm going to keep this short.

I've sent a couple of emails recently and haven't heard back. That's completely fine — but I don't want to keep showing up in your inbox if it's not useful.

If you'd like to keep receiving [what you send — insights, resources, updates], click here:
[Button: Keep me on the list]

If not, I'll quietly stop emailing you — no hard feelings.

Either way, thanks for being here at some point. I hope things are going well.

[Your name]

Goal: Give permission to leave. Contacts who click to stay are re-engaged and highly likely to become clients. Contacts who don't click are cleanly removed — keeping your list healthy and your deliverability strong.

Implementation in FlowNurture

Setting up the segment

Create a segment in FlowNurture:

  • Last email open: more than 30 days ago
  • AND Last email click: more than 30 days ago
  • AND Tag includes: lead (or whatever tag you apply to coaching leads)
  • AND Subscription status: subscribed

Set the segment to refresh weekly. New entries automatically enroll in the re-engagement workflow.

After the sequence: sunset path

For contacts who don't re-engage with any of the three emails:

End of sequence
→ Condition: Did contact open, click, or reply to any email?
     ├── Yes → Remove re-engagement tag, add tag: re-engaged
└── No → Add tag: sunset, remove from active segments

Contacts tagged sunset should be excluded from all future campaigns. In FlowNurture, add this tag to the Exclusions list in your campaign audience settings.
